Bas Peeters is the fifth artist to fill in the art project De Nis. The work he shows on the front and back façade of Venlo city hall is titled “Carne Vale”. His contribution will start officially on Wednesday December 21.

Bas Peeters’ work reminds of a caricature. From the niche on the front façade Prince Carnival, this time resembling the fairytale “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, hails the people below with the (in)famous local “alaaf-greeting”. His white lace cap and the light provide something of a strumpet-like appearance. The back niche shows the same figure, but this time from behind, and closer. From a shot wound seeps a thick droplet of blood. Real, or unreal?
